This short essay was written 2 years prior to the Civil War. I found this 158 year old piece of writing thought provoking, rhythmical and relevant to today so I decided to read it out loud to you. I am more attached than ever to the beauty I see in diversity after reconnecting with Carla Mathis on a professional level (and on a personal one) at the ASDP conference.A highlight of the conference for me (equal to receiving an award) was to be able to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Carla and share with the attendees why I nominated her. If you would like to know his story I will post it on my blog tomorrow. ... See MoreSee Less

Got home from the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals conference in Orlando 12 days ago on a high with ego restored ready to take on the world. It is amazing how recognition fills the heart and feeds the soul! The Outstanding Service to the Industry Award I received at conference gave me the courage to focus on finishing the newest version of the pricing system I developed several years ago as a stepping stone we need to complete the bridal alterations pricing next.MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! S.N.A.P. APP Tools for Tailoring Garments is now officially launched. To read all about it and to purchase a copy if so inclined visit my web store @sccanda.com/store and click on Pricing Systems.. S.N.A.P. APP Tools for Tailoring Garments
A Seriously Needed Alterations Pricing System developed for dressmakers and tailors
...The ASDP conference is now in full swing. Classes are going well and last night was the awards banquet. Carla Mathis was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award as planned. The audience loved it and they are loving her for bringing them the personal design tools to stretch themselves in new directions or more accurately recognizing the fact that they are already stretching on their own and now taking it further with Carla's guidance and encouragement. It is magic to watch this progression unfold.Last night was a night filled with magic for me personally as the ASDP board chose to honor me with an award for outstanding service. I'm encouraged to continue stretching the limitations we place on ourselves beginning with my own desire to stretch and grow as I enter this stage in life some call elder-hood. Elder-hood is those years following adulthood that society is in the throes of redefining as us "baby boomers" age. Retirement sounds good but I'm not quite there yet. I'm in a time and place that allows me the opportunity to contribute to society. I am compelled to do what I can but I can't do it alone.By presenting me with the first ever Outstanding Service Award through ASDP, you are sending a message that you are with me. I don't have to stretch and grow alone. I have my ASDP family and you have me.This is a power filled message of hope for the future. I'd love to see this award carried forth as an annual event. The element of surprise added to the magic. Way to go ASDP board members for pulling this off! I am indeed honored.P.S. Only those ASDP members who are on SCCandA email list will receive direct email messages from me. Here's the link specifically set up for ASDP members to join in. https://app.convertkit.com/landing_pages/77389Another way to join my list is to use the pop-up window on my website at SCCandA.com. ...
